I have always been taught to respect our nation’s veterans. My father was a member of the United States Coast Guard, and my brother is currently a member of the United States Air Force. I chose to commit a project to this group because I feel that they deserve a lot more recognition than they get.
My community service project has been to construct a veterans’ memorial in my town with the help of two of my classmates. We have purchased a plaque to be installed in one of our community’s parks, as well as flowers to plant in the surrounding area. The materials cannot be installed until the spring due to limitations by our borough, but nonetheless, all materials have been purchased in advance.
Through this project, I have learned that our veterans truly appreciate all efforts taken to thank them, especially when it is coming from young individuals. Although our project doesn’t come close to the sacrifices made by those men and women, it is our way to say “thank you” to our veterans.
